This thesis is entitled “A study on mastering modal verb on can, could, may, &#13;
might, will, would, shall, should , must to the second grade students of Escola&#13;
secundaria geral venilale in the year 2024”.&#13;
The objectives of this study are to find out the students ability by using Modal &#13;
verb on can, could, may might, will, would, shall, should , must. The method &#13;
use to analyze the data in this study was the descriptive quantitative method. The &#13;
formula that student’s ability in identifying and using modal verb. The &#13;
population of this study was the 60 students and the sample was 20 students. To &#13;
find sample the writer random sampling. The instruments used in this study 25&#13;
test items for collecting the date such as; number multiple choices 20 items and &#13;
o 5 numbers of filling in the blanks. The result of this study shows that the &#13;
students achieved of correct64.6% answers, on the other hand the level of &#13;
students wrong answers and 35.4% from students no answer in the level of &#13;
identification, 10 student were categorized in high level with 41% from score of &#13;
range 16 to 25and 10 students were categorized in average level with 25,4% &#13;
from score of range 10 to 15 moreover 9 students were categorized in low level &#13;
from 275 with 3,2% students total correct answers. this means that they were &#13;
able in identifying and using Modal verbs.&#13;
