This thesis is entitled “A study on mastering modal verb on can, could, may,
might, will, would, shall, should , must to the second grade students of Escola
secundaria geral venilale in the year 2024”.
The objectives of this study are to find out the students ability by using Modal
verb on can, could, may might, will, would, shall, should , must. The method
use to analyze the data in this study was the descriptive quantitative method. The
formula that student’s ability in identifying and using modal verb. The
population of this study was the 60 students and the sample was 20 students. To
find sample the writer random sampling. The instruments used in this study 25
test items for collecting the date such as; number multiple choices 20 items and
o 5 numbers of filling in the blanks. The result of this study shows that the
students achieved of correct64.6% answers, on the other hand the level of
students wrong answers and 35.4% from students no answer in the level of
identification, 10 student were categorized in high level with 41% from score of
range 16 to 25and 10 students were categorized in average level with 25,4%
from score of range 10 to 15 moreover 9 students were categorized in low level
from 275 with 3,2% students total correct answers. this means that they were
able in identifying and using Modal verbs.
